What you’ll build
Invent the Egg-O-Matic: a machine where chickens stand over hoppers that pass their eggs into a chest. Work out the iron cost, build it, and let it run while you do other jobs. Find the bug in version 1, fix one thing and test version 2.
Finish line: Eggs are arriving in the chest all on their own, and version 2 works better than version 1.
Bonus challenge: Design the Egg-O-Matic MAX for 8 chickens on paper and price its iron. Genius upgrade or money pit?
You’ll need
- Iron for hoppers
- A chest
- Seeds
- Glass or fences
- Chickens
You choose
- Machine name (Egg-O-Matic 3000?)
- Number of chickens
- One shared hopper or one per chicken
Stuck?
- Crouch while placing a hopper against the chest so it points into it instead of opening the chest.
- Eggs that land off the hoppers won't be collected, so pen the chickens tightly above them.
- Chickens lay about every 5–10 minutes, so give the test enough time before counting.
