What you’ll build
Build two small test towns side by side: a neat grid of straight streets and a twisty town with curves, a plaza and one sneaky dead end. Race the same routes through both, count the distances, then decide which layout deserves a place in Dream City.
Finish line: You have two raced street towns and a clear verdict on which layout is faster and which looks better.
Bonus challenge: Add one diagonal shortcut street to Grid Town. Race the longest route again. How many metres did it save?
You’ll need
- Road blocks and edging
- Checkpoint markers

Stuck?
- Results look unfair? Stay on the streets only. Cutting across grass spoils the comparison.
- Checkpoints in different places? Use coordinates to put A–D in matching spots in both towns.
- Losing count of blocks? Note your X and Z at each end of a straight stretch and work out the difference.
