What you’ll build
Build a street of six candy-coloured row houses that share their side walls, with a secret rule: just one feature changes from house to house. Predict the street's length with a formula, measure it to check, then see if a family member can crack your code.
Finish line: Six candy-colour houses line your street with a secret rule, and the measured length matches your formula.
Bonus challenge: Build the other side of the street with a sneakier code (two features that take turns). Can your code-cracker still beat it?
You’ll need
- Concrete or wool in candy colours
- Doors
- Glass
- A family member to crack the code
You choose
- My candy palette (bubblegum, mint, lemon…)
- My secret: the one thing that changes is
- My code (ABAB, ABC or rainbow fade)
Stuck?
- Street longer than predicted? Neighbours share one wall, so never build two walls side by side.
- Code too easy or too hard? Keep everything else identical so only one thing changes.
- Measuring with coordinates? Length is the difference plus 1, because both end blocks count.
