Build a 20-block lighthouse, then sail away until its light vanishes.
Every night your island vanishes into the dark. Build a beacon so bright you can find home far out at sea.

What you’ll build
Build a tall striped lighthouse on your island's highest point and light up its lamp room. Then head out to sea at dusk in a straight line, looking back until the light vanishes. Try a second direction and compare the distances.
Finish line: Your lighthouse shines over the island, and you know how far out to sea you can still see it.
Bonus challenge: Change your game's render distance setting and sail out again. Did the light vanish at a new spot? Can you explain why?

Stuck?
- Light vanishing very early? Your render distance setting decides how far you can see, so keep it the same for every test.
- Ladders won't stick? They need a solid block behind them.
- Lost at sea? Note the lighthouse's X and Z before you leave so you can always steer home.
