What you’ll build
Build a boat race course with proper start and finish gates on a long stretch of shallow sea. Measure it with coordinates, then run time trials to find your true record. Race a rival, then add zigzag buoys and see what the turns cost you.
Finish line: Your race course is built, every run is timed and the fastest racer is crowned.
Bonus challenge: Find a frozen ocean and race the same distance across the ice. How many times faster is ice than water? Hold on tight!
You’ll need
- A boat
- A stopwatch
- Bright blocks or wool
- A family member to race
You choose
- My boat's racing name
- Course length: 100, 150 or 200 blocks?
- My bet for my best time: ___ s
Stuck?
- Times all over the place? Use the average of several runs for a fair record.
- Gates hard to spot? Top them with bright blocks so they stand out on the water.
- Boat stuck? Shallow water works best, but make sure it's deep enough to float through.
