Sweep a search zone at dawn, read mob traces, then play Who Was Here?

Something crept past your HQ last night. It left traces. By sunrise you'll know exactly what it was.

  • New skill Tracking mobs by the traces they leave
  • Level 5 · Mysteries & Monsters
  • Difficulty Intermediate
  • Mode Survival
  • Time 40–60 min
  • Ages 13+

What you’ll build

Rope off a search zone around your HQ and note what it looks like before dark. After a night inside, sweep it at sunrise like a real search team, reading craters, arrows, missing blocks and bare grass to work out which mobs visited. Then play Who Was Here? with a family member, taking turns to set and solve a scene.

Finish line: Every trace in your search zone has a suspect, and you've played at least one round of Who Was Here?

Bonus challenge: Set a scene with a red herring: one fake clue pointing at the wrong mob. Can your family spot the trick?

You’ll need

  • Fence or wool to rope off a zone
  • A bow and arrows
  • A shovel
  • A family member to play

You choose

  • My crime-scene tape (wool or fence) colour
  • Search zone: 20 × 20 or 30 × 30
  • The trickiest trace I'll set for my family

Stuck?

  • Dropped items and arrows vanish after a few minutes, so sweep the zone soon after sunrise.
  • Sheep turn grass into dirt when they graze, and endermen carry blocks away, so compare with your before sketch.
  • Lost track of which rows you've checked? Walk in straight lines and mark each one off on your grid.

For grown-ups
