Find buried trail ruins, craft a brush and dig up finds without losing one.

The explorer's last postcard shows an old clay tower poking out of a forest floor. Under it: answers.

  • New skill Brushing suspicious gravel
  • Level 5 · Mysteries & Monsters
  • Difficulty Intermediate
  • Mode Survival
  • Time 45–60 min
  • Ages 13+

What you’ll build

Search taiga, jungle and old birch forests for the giveaway of buried trail ruins: terracotta poking out of the ground. Craft a brush, clear the dirt gently and uncover the speckly suspicious gravel. Brush every block with care, noting how deep each find was.

Finish line: You've found a trail ruin, dug it carefully with a brush and filled a finds chest.

Bonus challenge: Brush 10 more blocks and keep score. Did your treasure share go up or down? What does that tell you about the ruin?

You’ll need

  • A feather
  • A copper ingot
  • A stick
  • A shovel
  • Torches and food
  • A chest for finds

You choose

  • My dig site's name
  • My dig rule: brush first, or shovel the dirt first?
  • My bet for treasures found today

Stuck?

  • Mining suspicious gravel destroys the find. Hold the brush on it until the item pops out.
  • Suspicious gravel falls if the block under it is removed, so dig around it, not beneath it.
  • Trail ruins are mostly buried and easy to miss. Look for odd terracotta or mud bricks in the ground.

For grown-ups
