Build a decoy chest that pranks thieves, and an alarm on the real loot.
A thief spots a lonely chest and grins. Bad move. It's a decoy, and the real loot is guarded by a sensor.
- New skill Using a trapped chest and a loot sensor
- Level 6 · Inventor's Lab
- Difficulty Intermediate
- Mode Creative
- Time 35–45 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Set out a decoy chest that spits silly GOTCHA books at anyone who opens it. Then hide the real loot in a chest watched by a comparator and a torch, so an alarm rings the moment it's emptied. Invite a thief and see which trap catches them.
Finish line: Your decoy chest pranks thieves with GOTCHA books, and the real loot raises an alarm when it's emptied.
Bonus challenge: Hide a lever that switches off the loot alarm, so only you can take the treasure in silence. Where's the last place a thief would look?
You’ll need
- Trapped chest
- A dropper
- Written books
- A chest and comparator
- Redstone torch
- Note blocks
You choose
- What the decoy pretends to hold
- The prank prize it spits out
- Where the real loot hides
Stuck?
- The alarm only fires when the real chest is completely empty: one item left keeps it quiet.
- The comparator must point out of the loot chest into a solid block, with the torch on the far side.
- Use a trapped chest for the decoy: an ordinary chest sends no signal when opened.
