Build a sun-clock plaza and a sunlight meter that lights up toward noon.
The time machine's clock just broke. The Egyptians told time with the sun… so can you. Every lamp counts.
- New skill Daylight sensors and redstone lamps
- Level 7 · Time Travellers
- Difficulty Intermediate
- Mode Creative
- Time 40–50 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Build a round plaza with hour stones from east to west, then make a sun meter: a daylight sensor powering a row of lamps that brightens toward noon. Watch a whole day, count the lit lamps each minute and catch the brightest moment.
Finish line: Your sun-clock plaza is built and you've counted the lamps through a whole day, plus made a shadow clock.
Bonus challenge: Make a real shadow clock outside: push a stick into the ground on a sunny day and mark the shadow's tip with a pebble every hour.
You’ll need
- A daylight sensor
- Redstone lamps
- Redstone dust
- A stopwatch
You choose
- My sun clock's name
- Plaza style and colours
- My bet for lamps lit at noon
Stuck?
- Lamps lighting at night instead? Tap the daylight sensor to switch it back to day mode.
- The sensor needs open sky above it. Rain or a roof will lower its signal.
- Dust needs a solid block under it. Lamps count, so lay the dust right on top of them.
