Build two giant calendar wheels and find when their markers line up again.

Two giant wheels turn side by side: one counts 13, one counts 20. When do they line up again? Think big.

  • New skill Building giant circles with blocks
  • Level 7 · Time Travellers
  • Difficulty Intermediate
  • Mode Creative
  • Time 45–60 min
  • Ages 13+

What you’ll build

Build two giant calendar wheels side by side, one with numbered markers and one with day symbols you invent. Walk them with a partner one day at a time to find when they line up again, then crack an even bigger cycle and build a lantern plaza.

Finish line: Your two calendar wheels have your own day symbols, the meeting point is found and the lantern plaza glows.

Bonus challenge: Work out your first 'Calendar Round birthday': the day both wheels and the year wheel line up exactly as when you were born. How old will you be?

You’ll need

  • Building blocks for two circles
  • Lanterns
  • A family member to walk with you

You choose

  • My calendar's name
  • My 20 day symbols (invent your own)
  • My bet for days until the wheels match again

Stuck?

  • Circle looking lumpy? Mark the four compass points first at the same distance from the centre, then fill between.
  • Markers spaced unevenly? Count the rim blocks first and divide by the number of markers.
  • Losing count on the walk? Switch to paper and write each pair down.

For grown-ups
