What you’ll build
Head underground. You'll upgrade to stone tools, then dig a safe staircase mine down from your shelter, one step at a time. Keep an eye out for coal, craft your first torches and light up the tunnel so you can always find your way home.
Finish line: You have stone tools and a lit staircase mine you can walk in and out of.
Bonus challenge: Count how much coal you find, and make enough torches to light every few steps.

Stuck?
- Never dig straight down. You could drop into a cave or lava, so always dig in steps.
- Leave enough headroom on each step so you can walk back up without bumping your head.
- No coal yet? Smelt logs in a furnace to make charcoal, which works for torches too.
