What you’ll build
Sketch your mine from the side, then dig a safe staircase down towards Y 16, lighting your way and checking your height as you go. At the bottom, carve out a Mine Hub with a chest, crafting table and furnace, and log every ore you spot on the way.
Finish line: Your lit staircase reaches Y 16, your Mine Hub is built and your ore log is your treasure map.
Bonus challenge: Add an express route home: a ladder shaft beside the stairs. Time the climb both ways. Which wins, and by how many seconds?

Stuck?
- Gravel or sand above you can fall when you mine underneath. Step back and let it drop before carrying on.
- Hear bubbling? Stop and block the wall in front of you. Lava often hides just behind stone.
- Turn on Show Coordinates in your world settings to see your Y level as you dig.
