Make obsidian, build and light a Nether portal, then survive a first scout.
Ten blocks of obsidian. One spark. On the other side: lava seas, screaming ghasts and a whole new frontier.

What you’ll build
Turn lava into obsidian and build a portal frame, then write down your coordinates and light it with flint and steel. Step through into the Nether, wall in your arrival portal and take a short scout before dashing home.
Finish line: Your home portal is lit, your Nether portal is walled in and both sets of coordinates are on a sign.
Bonus challenge: Divide your home portal's X and Z by 8. How close did your Nether portal land to that spot? Off by ___ blocks.

Stuck?
- Portal won't light? The frame must be a full rectangle with an empty 2 × 3 space inside.
- Never sleep in the Nether. Beds explode there.
- Write your Nether coordinates on a sign by the portal. Your compass won't work there.
