Dig two tunnels at two depths, count every ore, crown the lucky layer.
Two tunnels. Two depths. One of them is hiding the good stuff. Place your bet, grab a pickaxe and dig.

What you’ll build
Bet on which underground layer hides more ore, then staircase down to two different depths. Dig a matching tunnel at each level, tally every ore you spot and keep the test fair. Crown the lucky layer as the home for your future mine.
Finish line: Two equal tunnels are dug, every ore is tallied, and the lucky layer is crowned with numbers to prove it.
Bonus challenge: Got an iron pickaxe? Dig a third tunnel near Y −58, diamond territory. Did diamonds show up? Watch out: lava loves it down there too.

Stuck?
- Never dig straight down. A staircase lets you see lava or a drop before you fall into it.
- Hear lava or rushing water? Block the gap with cobblestone and back away.
- Keep both tunnels the same size and length, or the comparison won't be fair.
