Build a Greek-style Hall of Heroes where every column obeys one ratio.
Your city needs a Hall of Heroes. The secret: every column obeys one ratio. Break it and it looks off.
- New skill Columns, symmetry and proportion
- Level 3 · Dream City
- Difficulty Beginner
- Mode Creative
- Time 35–45 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Choose a secret ratio for column height, width and gap, test it on one column, then build a Greek-style Hall of Heroes around a perfect line of symmetry. Add a stepped base, a pediment and your heroes inside, then let an inspector hunt for any column that breaks the rule.
Finish line: Your symmetrical Hall of Heroes obeys one ratio in every column and gap, and it passed inspection.
Bonus challenge: Build a giant 3-wide column beside a 1-wide one at the same ratio. How tall must the giant be? Does it still look right?
You’ll need
- Quartz or white stone blocks
- Stairs for the base
- Armour stands or banners
- A family member as inspector
You choose
- My secret ratio (height : width : gap): ___ : 1
- Columns across the front (even number)
- The heroes honoured inside
Stuck?
- Entrance off-centre? Use an even number of front columns so a gap sits right on the centre line.
- Columns look squat or skinny? Tweak your test column before building the rest. Changing later is slow.
- Corner columns belong to both the front and the side, so count them in both rows.
For grown-ups
