Build a hexagon beehive house and test how close it is to perfect.
Bees have built in hexagons for millions of years. Can you match them using nothing but square blocks?
- New skill Building a polygon on a grid
- Level 3 · Dream City
- Difficulty Beginner
- Mode Creative
- Time 30–45 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Plan a six-sided floor using corner coordinates, measure its angles, then mark the corners in Shape Park and join them with straight and stepped sides. Work out how long the slanted walls really are, raise honeycomb walls and a roof, and welcome your buzzing new neighbours.
Finish line: Your six-sided beehive house stands in Shape Park with bees next door, its angles and perimeter worked out.
Bonus challenge: Work out the floor area: split it into a 6 × 10 rectangle and two triangles (each ½ × 3 × 10). Compare with about 93.5 m² for a perfect one.
You’ll need
- Honeycomb blocks
- A beehive
- Flowers
- Bee spawn eggs
- A protractor
You choose
- My house's name
- Roof: flat, stepped or pointed
- Honey colours (honeycomb, yellow, orange…)
Stuck?
- Slanted sides look messy? Keep the same step pattern all the way: 3 across, then 5 along.
- Corners in the wrong place? Add your own starting X and Z to every corner from the plan.
- Worried about stings? Bees only sting if attacked, and Creative players take no damage.
For grown-ups
