A letter: "The old explorer vanished. Follow the clues." Clue one: survive the night… and listen.

What you’ll build
A sealed letter says the old explorer has vanished, and your new detective world begins. Race the daylight to gather wood and tools, then build a secret hideout with a hidden way in and a glass spyhole. Seal yourself in for the night, log every sound you hear, and creep out at sunrise to see if the evidence matches.
Finish line: You survived night one in a secret spyhole hideout, and every sound on your list has a suspect.
Bonus challenge: Make a bed (3 wool + 3 planks) and sleep in the hideout. Or stay up at the spyhole and match one monster you SEE to every sound on your list.
You’ll need
- Wood and basic tools
- Sand and a furnace for glass
- Torches
- A timer
- Someone to read the sealed letter
You choose
- My detective name
- The explorer's name (nobody remembers it)
- Hideout style: dug into a hill, or a stone bunker
Stuck?
- No glass? Smelt sand in a furnace with coal or charcoal as fuel. One block of sand makes one block of glass.
- Monsters spawn in the dark, so light every corner of the hideout before you seal yourself in.
- Can't sleep? You can't use a bed while monsters are nearby. Stay sealed in and keep listening instead.
