Study one ruined building, then build its restored twin right beside it.
One crumbling tower, half its walls gone. Using only the clues left behind, rebuild it exactly as it stood.
- New skill Making terracotta and mud bricks
- Level 5 · Mysteries & Monsters
- Difficulty Intermediate
- Mode Survival
- Time 45–60 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Study one ruined building and draw which blocks survived and which are missing. Make the explorer's building kit of terracotta and mud bricks, then build a restored twin right beside the original, copying mirror walls where the evidence is gone. Label each wall as evidence or best guess.
Finish line: Your restored twin stands beside the original ruin, with every wall marked evidence or best guess.
Bonus challenge: Restore a second ruined building in a totally different style, using only the clues. Which one needed more best guesses?
You’ll need
- Clay
- A furnace
- Dirt
- Water bottles
- Wheat
You choose
- The building I'll restore
- What it used to be: watchtower, home or shrine?
- My bet for how much survived: ___%
Stuck?
- Make mud by using a water bottle on dirt. Mud plus wheat makes packed mud, and 4 packed mud make mud bricks.
- Terracotta comes from smelting a clay block, not clay balls. Look for clay in shallow water.
- Leave the original ruin untouched. Build the twin next to it so you can compare before and after.
For grown-ups
