Build a giant papyrus reed boat, then race real boats on a Nile course.
Your time machine needs a part from upriver. The fastest way there? A boat made of reeds… and a race.

What you’ll build
Build a long, low reed boat on your Nile with a curving hull, a wool sail, a steering oar and a shady canopy. Then lay out a buoy race course, race a real boat round it, find your true record and dare a rival to beat it.
Finish line: Your reed boat has a sail and canopy, your course is laid out and both racers have a true record.
Bonus challenge: Build a return course with one super-tight bend. Is your true record faster or slower going the other way, and why?

Stuck?
- Lantern buoys falling off? Place them on top of a block or fence post sticking out of the water.
- Lead not tying on? Hold the lead and tap a fence post to tie a knot.
- Times all over the place? Start and stop the stopwatch at the same lines every run.
