Carve a hidden base into a hill with a fake entrance and a secret real one.
A hill that looks totally normal… except for the secret base inside. Guess how many blocks you'll dig!

What you’ll build
Pick a hill and draw a blueprint of your secret base from above. Guess how many blocks you'll need to dig, then carve it out while keeping the outside looking untouched. Add a hidden real entrance, a fake door for snoopers, and light every corner before you move in.
Finish line: Your base is hidden inside a hill, the fake door fools visitors, and you know how close your guess was.
Bonus challenge: Give a family member 2 minutes to find the real entrance from outside. Did your disguise hold? If they find it, upgrade it.
You’ll need
- A pickaxe and a shovel
- Torches
- A bed, chests and a crafting table
- A water bucket (optional)
You choose
- Real entrance: key block, trapdoor drop or water curtain
- Where the fake entrance leads
- Base codename
Stuck?
- Keep count as you dig by checking your inventory; it's the easiest way to track the real number.
- A water curtain needs a water bucket, which takes 3 iron ingots to craft.
- Dark corners can spawn monsters inside your base, so light the whole space before you move in.
