Build a flat wall and a layered wall from the same 4 blocks. Judges decide!
One wall is flat and boring. One wall is about to get superpowers. Same size, same 4 blocks. Who wins?
- New skill Adding depth with frames, insets and trims
- Level 3 · Dream City
- Difficulty Beginner
- Mode Creative
- Time 35–45 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Build two walls the same size from the same four blocks: one totally flat, one powered up with a frame, an inset and trim. Compare their surface areas, watch how shadows play across them, then let judges score both and upgrade the fancy wall with their notes.
Finish line: Your flat and layered walls are compared by surface area and judge scores, and wall B has been upgraded.
Bonus challenge: Spread the superpowers across a whole room: a floor border, ceiling beams and a framed doorway. Get the judges back for a final ruling.
You’ll need
- A 4-block palette
- Stairs, slabs and trapdoors
- Two family judges
You choose
- My 4-block palette
- My 3 superpowers (frame, inset, trim)
- What the judges score on
Stuck?
- Wall B still looks flat? Push the inset back a full block so it casts a clear shadow.
- Counting surface area? Count every face you could paint, including the sides of anything that sticks out.
- Judges being vague? Ask each one for a reason with their score.
For grown-ups
