Build a full-size pirate ship with true proportions, sails and a cabin.
Every pirate legend starts with a ship. Yours will be so big the whole ocean hears about it.

What you’ll build
Every pirate legend starts with a ship. Pick a length, work out the width from real ship proportions and sketch the deck. Lay the keel, curve the hull up layer by layer, then raise the masts, hang the sails and add a captain's cabin.
Finish line: Your full-size pirate ship floats by your island with masts, sails and a captain's cabin.
Bonus challenge: Add a hidden cargo hold below deck with a trapdoor only you know about, and stock it for the voyages ahead.
You’ll need
- Lots of wood (6+ stacks of planks)
- Logs for the keel
- White wool for sails
- Fences for rails
- Lanterns
- A chest

- My flag or figurehead design
Stuck?
- Hull looks boxy? Make it widest in the middle and step it in towards a pointed bow.
- Running out of wood? Gathering it takes a while, so it's fine to build over two sessions.
- Sails look flat? Try offsetting rows of wool so they curve slightly, as if catching the wind.
