Mission 563 hasn’t hit the channel yet. Subscribe and you’ll see it the day it lands.
Build two memory cells, an RS latch and a copper bulb, then race them.
Press a button and walk away. Hours later, the lamp still knows. How can blocks remember anything?
- New skill Building an RS latch and a toggle
- Level 6 · Inventor's Lab
- Difficulty Intermediate
- Mode Creative
- Time 40–50 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Find out how blocks can remember. You'll build an RS latch from two torches in a loop, with Set and Reset buttons, and a copper bulb that flips with every press. Then hold a memory race, predicting each lamp before you press.
Finish line: Your RS latch and copper bulb both remember, and you've scored your guesses in the memory race.
Bonus challenge: Put a comparator behind your copper bulb (it reads 15 when the bulb is lit) and use it to open a piston door. One press opens, the next press closes!
You’ll need
- Redstone torches
- Building blocks
- Buttons
- Redstone lamp
- Waxed copper bulb
- Redstone dust
You choose
- What my memory guards (door, prize light, alarm)
- My Set and Reset button labels
- My bet: which memory is easier to use
Stuck?
- Latch flickering at first? Press Set or Reset once and it should settle.
- Each torch's dust must run into the other torch's block to make the loop.
- Use waxed copper bulbs: unwaxed ones age and glow dimmer over time.
