Mission 653 hasn’t hit the channel yet. Subscribe and you’ll see it the day it lands.
Build a trebuchet-style launcher and find which height fires furthest.
The castle needs the mightiest launcher in the land. Does a taller one really fire further? Showdown time.
- New skill Firing a dispenser with a button
- Level 7 · Time Travellers
- Difficulty Intermediate
- Mode Creative
- Time 40–50 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Build a trebuchet-style launcher with a hidden dispenser in its arm, then mark out a range with coloured stripes and a bullseye. Run a fair test by changing only the height, fire volleys from each one and graph which height shoots furthest.
Finish line: Your launcher is built, the range is marked and you have a graph showing which height fired furthest.
Bonus challenge: Build a second launcher and hold a family duel: closest arrow to the bullseye in 3 shots wins. Does height help aim?
You’ll need
- A dispenser
- Arrows
- A button
- Coloured wool
- A hay bale or target block
You choose
- My trebuchet's name
- The hay bale bullseye goes at ___ blocks
- My bet for the winning height
Stuck?
- Arrows flying the wrong way? The dispenser shoots out of its front face, so point it at the range.
- One arrow per press: a button gives a short pulse, so press again for each shot.
- Results all over the place? Keep everything the same except height, including the direction the dispenser faces.
