Sketch a 16 × 16 portrait, scale it up to 32 × 32 blocks and unveil it.
Every great family had a painter. Paint someone you know, giant-sized, and unveil it. Will they guess who?

What you’ll build
Sketch an original portrait on a small grid, using light, middle and dark shades for shadow. Scale it up to a giant wall in your gallery, add a grand frame and a curtain, then unveil it to your family. Can they guess who it is?
Finish line: Your giant original portrait is framed, unveiled and guessed (or not!) by your family.
Bonus challenge: Paint a tiny 8 × 8 version too. Which one looks more like the person, and why? How many blocks does it use?

- Coloured blocks in 3 shades
- Wool for a curtain
- Squared paper
- Coloured pencils

Stuck?
- Losing your place? Every sketch square becomes a 2×2 patch. Build one row of the sketch at a time.
- Face looking flat? Pick one side for the light and use the darkest shade on the other side.
- Curtain won't drop? Use wool you can break quickly, or a sticky-piston curtain.
