Wire an inverted daylight sensor so your lighthouse lamps glow every night.
Sailors get lost after dark. Build a lighthouse that wakes at sunset by itself, with no one at the switch.
- New skill Wiring an inverted daylight sensor
- Level 4 · Legends of the Deep
- Difficulty Intermediate
- Mode Survival
- Time 40–50 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Build a lighthouse that wakes up at sunset all by itself. Ring the top with redstone lamps and dust, then craft a daylight sensor and flip it so it powers at night. Add a keeper's lever, watch the sunset and test it in a storm.
Finish line: Your lighthouse lamps switch on by themselves every night and a keeper's lever can light them too.
Bonus challenge: Build a mini lighthouse on another island with its own sensor. Watch both at sunset: do they wake at the same moment?
You’ll need
- Nether quartz
- Glowstone
- Redstone lamps
- Redstone dust
- A lever
- Wooden slabs
You choose
- My lighthouse's name
- Window tint colour
- My bet: the lamps wake at ___ (sunset, dusk or full dark)
Stuck?
- Lamps on during the day? Tap the daylight sensor to switch it to night mode.
- Sensor not doing anything? It needs open sky above it.
- Far lamps not lighting? The signal is weak at dusk, so they may wake later or need to be closer.
For grown-ups
