Build a doorbell that plays your own tune with note blocks and repeaters.
Ding-dong is boring. Your lab door deserves a whole orchestra every time somebody rings.

What you’ll build
Make up a short tune of your own, then build it as a doorbell. A button sends a signal down a line of repeaters into note blocks, and you pick the pitch, the instruments and the rhythm. Build two versions and let someone choose the winner.
Finish line: Your Lab door rings out your very own tune, on the instruments you chose, every time someone presses the bell.
Bonus challenge: Make the bell play a different tune at the back door, using the same notes on a different instrument. Which one sounds more like a lab?
You’ll need
- Note blocks
- Repeaters
- Redstone dust
- A button
- Instrument blocks (gold, wool)
You choose
- My doorbell's instrument
- My tune's name
- Fast and cheeky, or slow and spooky
Stuck?
- Silent note block? It needs an empty block of air directly above it.
- Tap a note block to raise its pitch one step. After the highest note it loops back to the lowest.
- Notes all playing at once? Add more repeater delay between each branch.
