Build an alarm with a light, a sound and a moving block in 10 parts max.
The Lab's bank is nearly empty. Build a full burglar alarm with 10 parts and 30 Lab Coins… or go bust.
- New skill Powering several parts from one block
- Level 6 · Inventor's Lab
- Difficulty Intermediate
- Mode Creative
- Time 30–45 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Build a burglar alarm that lights a lamp, plays a sound and moves a piston, all on a tight parts budget. Build any version first, count every piece and its cost, then use a clever trick with a pressure plate to slash your parts list.
Finish line: Your alarm lights, sounds and moves on a tiny parts budget, and you have the receipt to prove it.
Bonus challenge: Get it down to just 4 parts. Then swap the plate for a tripwire: 2 hooks at 2 coins each (string is free). Which costs more?
You’ll need
- Pressure plate
- Redstone lamp
- Note block
- A piston
- Redstone dust
- A family member to test it
You choose
- My alarm's name
- What it guards
- My bet for how few parts it takes
Stuck?
- A pressure plate powers the block it sits on, and that block powers anything touching it.
- Silent alarm? The note block needs an empty block of air above it.
- Count every single dust as one part when you add up your total.
