Build a 50-block, three-tier lighthouse that lights up by itself at night.
Ships are lost in the dark off the coast. Build the ancient world's tallest lighthouse and light the night.
- New skill Wiring lamps to turn on at night
- Level 7 · Time Travellers
- Difficulty Intermediate
- Mode Creative
- Time 45–60 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Build a towering three-tier lighthouse on the coast: a square base, an eight-sided middle and a round top. Wire its lamps to light up by themselves at night, crown it with a beacon beam, then sail out in a boat to see it shine.
Finish line: Your three-tier lighthouse stands 50 blocks tall and lights up the coast on its own at night.
Bonus challenge: Build a harbour wall with a small lamp at the end to guide boats in. Can you sail from the horizon to the harbour using only the lights?
You’ll need
- A daylight sensor
- Redstone lamps
- Redstone dust
- A beacon
- Iron blocks
- A boat
You choose
- My lighthouse keeper's name
- My light: redstone lamps, a beacon beam or both
- My bet: the light can be seen ___ km away
Stuck?
- Lamps on in the day? Tap the daylight sensor to switch it to night mode.
- No beacon beam? It needs a full 3×3 iron base under it and clear sky above (glass is fine).
- The daylight sensor must see the sky. Put it on the top of the tower, not inside.
For grown-ups
