What you’ll build
Set a timer and dig your branch mine in timed runs, tallying every diamond you find. Work out your diamonds per run, use it to predict when number ten will turn up, then craft your very first diamond pickaxe and stash the rest safely.
Finish line: You've got ten diamonds, a tally for every run and your first diamond pickaxe.
Bonus challenge: Set a new record: beat your best single run by one diamond. Change only one thing about how you mine, and see if it was the secret.

- An iron pickaxe
- Torches

- Each run lasts: 10 or 15 minutes
- My bet for runs to hit 10 diamonds
Stuck?
- Diamond ore needs an iron pickaxe or better. Mine it with stone and it drops nothing.
- Darker deepslate diamond ore still drops diamonds; it just takes a little longer to mine.
- No luck? Try longer branches or check the walls of nearby caves. Finds are random.
