- New skill Layered roofs, verandas and garden balance
- Level 3 · Dream City
- Difficulty Beginner
- Mode Creative
- Time 35–45 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Study real photos, then build a calm Japanese-inspired house with a raised floor, pale sliding-screen walls, a veranda and deep layered eaves. Lay out a balanced garden that hides its best view until the very end, then guide a visitor through and polish your guidebook page.
Finish line: Your Japanese-inspired house and garden hide one great view until the end, and your guidebook page is improved.
Bonus challenge: Link a second small building with a covered walkway. Does it hide the view or give it away? Move the path until the surprise survives.
You’ll need
- Wood planks and logs
- Pale blocks for screens
- Stone and gravel
- A visitor to guide
You choose
- My 6-block palette
- Garden type (dry gravel, moss and stone, or pond)
- What my hidden view reveals
Stuck?
- House looking busy? Stick to your 6 block types. A short palette is part of the calm look.
- Eaves too short? Let the roof reach well past the walls; stairs and slabs help shape the edges.
- View spotted too early? Move the hedge or bend the path so the reveal comes last.
For grown-ups
