Repeat one tile shape across a 24 × 24 plaza with no gaps or overlaps.
The city's grand plaza needs a floor so dazzling it stops traffic. The catch: one tile shape, no gaps.
- New skill Repeating a tile across a floor
- Level 3 · Dream City
- Difficulty Beginner
- Mode Creative
- Time 30–45 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Design one tile shape on paper and prove it fits with no gaps, then lay it across a big square plaza in up to three colours. Solve the tricky edges, inspect from the sky for any slip-ups, and hide one sneaky odd tile for someone to find.
Finish line: Your plaza is covered in one repeating tile with no gaps or overlaps, and one odd tile hidden in it.
Bonus challenge: Design a second tile that fills the same plaza a different way. Which one needs fewer tiles?
You’ll need
- Blocks in up to 3 colours
- Squared paper
- Coloured pencils
You choose
- My plaza's name
- My tile shape (L, T, zigzag, my own)
- Up to 3 colours
Stuck?
- Tiles not fitting? Test your shape on paper at least four times before you build.
- Edges won't work? Check whether 576 divides evenly by your tile's area; if not, plan a trimmed border.
- Gaps are hard to spot from the ground. Fly up high and look straight down.
For grown-ups
