Wire 5 levers to an iron door so only one secret combination opens it.
The explorer's notes are too precious to leave lying around. Lock them behind a door only one code can open.
- New skill Building a redstone combination lock
- Level 5 · Mysteries & Monsters
- Difficulty Intermediate
- Mode Survival
- Time 45–60 min
- Ages 13+
What you’ll build
Guard your vault with an iron door and a row of five levers. Using redstone torches and dust, wire the lock so that only one secret combination of on and off opens the door. Test it, fix it, then scramble the levers and see how many tries it takes a family member to break in.
Finish line: Your iron vault door opens only with your secret five-lever code.
Bonus challenge: Add a sixth lever and a decoy lever that does nothing. How many codes are there now, and does the decoy fool anyone?
You’ll need
- An iron door
- Redstone dust
- Redstone torches
- 5 levers
- Solid blocks
- A family member to test it
You choose
- My vault's name
- My secret code (U = up, D = down): ___ ___ ___ ___
- My bet for how many tries a codebreaker needs
Stuck?
- Iron doors have no handle. Only a redstone signal opens them, so the dust must reach the door itself.
- Redstone dust needs a block under it. Check for gaps in the line behind your levers.
- Wrong code opens it? Test one lever at a time and check that each torch or dust spot is on the right block.
For grown-ups
